The project site, Macleod Village, is a popular neighbourhood park that is used as a children's playground, public amenities area and is filled with lush greenery, centrally located between local strip shops and train station.

The siting of the building was investigated to select the most appropriate location to provide a connection to the adjoining facilities and create a safe and comfortable space that uses a decentralised layout to allow for good sight lines throughout the park. The main body of the building stands separately from the columns and floating V shaped roof over. The elevated roof promotes ventilation and natural light, creating a bright and clean environment while giving the facility a unique appearance.

The building is clad in KAZA Weave handmade 3D concrete tiles which are smooth finish designed by Note Design Studio of Stockholm. Simple in structure and repetitive in form, Weave is inspired by the undulating rhythmic imagery created by sand dunes and traditional weaving techniques.

The colours selected for the façade ‘Weave’ were informed by the surround colours of the buildings environment earthy tones and visual connection to the historical context of the surrounding precinct of the rotunda and surrounding buildings and landscape.

The brief was to create a highly visible building, ‘something iconic’. Well integrated into the landscape. Creating a practical building with considerations of privacy, safety, accessibility, inclusion, attractiveness, hygienic, maintenance, antigrafiti and sustainable.

The interior is also particularly important to the Client to allow enough visual contrast for the public with low vision and who experience decreased colour perception. The contrasting colour provide safety and ease of use to the users.
