The Glen Iris house was a well lived interwar cream brick dwelling when our client approached us to bring it back to life. Our philosophy was to restore the existing brick home and create a modern extension at the back of the property with a glass link between the new and old structure. The brief was to add a modern kitchen, living and dining area and expand on the period features of the small brick house while increasing space and liveability for its occupants and refurbishing the existing spaces.
Inspired by the clients interest in 1960’s design and pastel colours, we selected features handmade bricks to create a patchwork of coloured walls as the feature of the new façade and adopted an oversized v shaped column frequently used in the 1960’s design to support our new searing canopy.
