Greensborough Preschool and Maternal Health Centre was an existing centre that was fully refurbished and an additional preschool room was added onto the building. Our engagement was from the commencement of the sketch design through to the completion of the project on site. The design is the result of a comprehensive consultation process with various user groups and the adjacent Primary School.

Our aim was to create a welcoming and natural environment and adopt a vibrant patchwork of glazed green bricks and multi coloured cladding on the external façade to reflect and connect to the colours of the surrounding garden and significate trees in the playground.

The centre was designed with a strong focus on environmental sustainability and our main goal was to position the building in its surroundings in a positive way and provide experiential connections with the natural world, encouraging learning through direct experience. We created Indoor-outdoor play opportunities to connect the childcare room with the outdoor play areas.

The Landscape design aims to provide creative external spaces combining the principles of both natural and structured play. A large portion of the time spent at kinder is outdoor play and therefore the long term success of the centre equally lies with the success of the building and the landscape.
